Getting to Lightfall
The entrance to Lightfall is via the West Entrance of Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne at 1000 Ballarto Road, Cranbourne. There is no other entrance to the event. The East Entrance near South Gippsland Highway will be closed.
If you are using a navigation system, please ensure you enter the correct entry gate – West Entrance – Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne.
The West Entrance is located at the end of Ballarto Road. It can only be accessed from the Cranbourne-Frankston Road direction. You can also search for Donnelly’s Garden Supplies, which is at the roundabout on the corner of Ballarto Road and Cranbourne-Frankston Road and then continue along Ballarto Road to the Cranbourne Gardens.
The West Entrance cannot be accessed via Laurie Cleary Lane.
On busier nights, you may be directed to the overflow car park and bussed the short distance to the Lightfall entrance. The overflow car park is also accessed via Ballarto Road and staff will be on hand to guide you when you arrive.
Parking tickets must be booked when purchasing your admission ticket. There is no alternative parking for this event. Please ensure that you have purchased parking if you intend to travel by car. You will not be able to park your car if you have not pre-purchased parking.
Please have your parking ticket ready to be scanned at the entrance to the car park.
There is no street parking near the West Entrance to Cranbourne Gardens. This includes Ballarto Road, Laurie Cleary Lane, and Cranbourne-Frankston Road. The East Entrance, and all other roads within Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne, will be closed. Council will actively patrol the area and issue infringements where appropriate.
CAR
Parking must be pre-purchased before attending the event – please have your ticket ready to be scanned on arrival.
Entrance is via the West Entrance of Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne at 1000 Ballarto Road. The East Entrance will be closed.
On more popular days, you may be directed to the overflow carpark and bussed the short distance to the Lightfall trail entrance. The transfer journey take approx. 5-10 minutes and buses will be suitable for wheelchairs and prams. For your return journey, the buses will collect you from the trail exit in Cranbourne Gardens.
Please arrive at the West Entrance of Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne and you will be directed to the appropriate carpark.

The speed limit on Ballarto Road as you enter/exit the event will be significantly reduced for the event. Please follow the temporary speed limit signs and be mindful of any animals that might be looking to cross the road as you are driving.
We recommend arriving 15 minutes prior to your trail session to allow sufficient time for parking.
BY TAXI/RIDESHARE/DROP-OFF
There is a 1 minute drop off / pick up zone on site at Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne. No parking is permitted in this zone.
Taxi/rideshares are to enter the event with regular cars and will be directed to the drop off zone.
Entry is via the West Entrance of Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne at 1000 Ballarto Road, Cranbourne. As other visitors will be arriving by car, please account for Ballarto Road being busier than usual.
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT/BIKE
The closest train station to Cranbourne Gardens is Cranbourne Station, which is the last station on the Cranbourne line. The station is 6km from Cranbourne Gardens. Taxi / rideshare can be taken from the train station to the Gardens.
There are bike racks located both in the car park and next to the Visitor Centre.
Getting from the East Entrance to the West Entrance
The East Entrance near South Gippsland Highway is closed for Lightfall.
It is approximately 10 – 15 minute drive from the East Entrance to the West Entrance.
If you are at the East Entrance, you can get to the West Entrance using the following directions:
- Head east on Ballarto Road towards Riverwood Drive.
- Turn left onto South Gippsland Highway
- Turn left onto Sladen Street / State Route 4
- Turn left onto Cranbourne-Frankston Road
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Ballarto Road.
If you are using your navigation system, please note that roads internal to Cranbourne Gardens, including Stringybark Dr and Entry Rd, will be closed. You will need to travel via South Gippsland Highway and Cranbourne-Frankston Road.
Key Event Info
The trail is 1km long and is designed to be travelled in one direction. Depending on your pace, we recommend allowing approximately 45 – 60 minutes to fully enjoy the experience. You won’t be able to go backwards through the trail or re-enter the trail once you have completed it.
Last entry onto trail will be 10 minutes after the final advertised timeslot.
For your safety and the protection of the Gardens, please stay on the paths at all times.
- Dress for autumn weather and wear suitable footwear, Lightfall will go ahead in the event of rain. You will not be able to refund or exchange your tickets if you choose not to attend due to inclement weather.
- In the event of severe weather causing the show to be cancelled, you will be notified via SMS and email ahead of opening and offered tickets to an alternate date or a refund.
- Food and drink will be available at two points along the trail catering for dietary requirements. You will be able to take food and drink purchased on the trail with you as you walk. Please refrain from bringing any picnics or alcoholic beverages.
- Toilet facilities are located throughout the trail.
- There are no cloak room facilities available.
- No pets are allowed on site including in the car park. This is to protect the native wildlife. Registered assistance animals are permitted.
- You may see wildlife along the trail. This is their home, so please treat them with respect and keep your distance. Don’t feed or touch the wildlife. In the unlikely event you see a snake, please tell a staff member.
- Lightfall is a walking event - vehicles (whether foot propelled or motorised) are not permitted on the trail. This includes but is not limited to bikes, scooters, skateboards, hoverboards, balance bikes and roller skates. Wheelchairs and recognised mobility aids are allowed.
- The entire Lightfall trail follows a consistent path on a variety of ground surfaces. There are some paths whose gradients are steep and slightly uneven, and audience members may benefit from assistance. If you have particular access requirements, please call (03) 5990 2200 for further enquiries.
- Please be aware some lighting sequences will include flashing, flickering and patterned effects, however there will be no strobe lighting.
Event Timings
Depending on your pace we recommend allowing approximately 45 - 60 minutes to ensure you have enough time to enjoy the full experience. You won’t be able to backwards through the trail or re-enter the trail once you have completed it.
- Tickets for this event are timed in 15-minute increments from 6.00pm onwards each event day
- The car park will open to Lightfall ticket holders from 5:45pm.
- Last entry to the event will be 8.40pm, which is 10 minutes after the final session. If you arrive after 8.40pm entry will not be permitted.
- All customers must exit the car park no later than 10pm (final timed session is 8.30pm).
On Arrival
To avoid unnecessary queuing at the entrance please remember to:
- Have your tickets downloaded or printed before you arrive.
- Have your parking ticket ready to be scanned at the entrance to the car park.
- Arrive at the start of the trail 5 minutes before your ticketed start time.
- Please ensure all members of your party have their own tickets ready to be scanned.
- Ensure the brightness on your mobile phone is turned up to aid the speed of scanning.
