Creating the next generation of environmental leaders

About Apprenticeships at Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria

Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria plays a key role in protecting vital and fragile biodiversity through its world-class horticulture and arboriculture practices. Our expert staff are custodians of critically needed scientific and horticultural knowledge.

Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria is offering a unique opportunity to build the skills and knowledge of the next generation of environmentalists by connecting emerging horticulturists and arborists with our world-class team of experts.

Why is this project needed?

Climate change is threatening biodiversity around the world and botanic gardens play a crucial role as custodians of critically needed scientific and horticultural knowledge.

Building ‘green skills’ and creating employment pathways for people in the ‘green jobs’ economy is an important contribution to the fight to preserve biodiversity and adapt to the impacts of climate change in Victoria.

How you can help

We aim to create employment pathways and contribute to the “green jobs” economy by offering comprehensive, three-year horticulture and two-year arboriculture training programs. The program will not only build participant’s skills and experience, it aims to foster environmental leaders of the future.

  • With an investment of $180,000 your support will enable one person to receive three years of horticultural skills and knowledge.
  • Investment of $120,000 will support one person to receive two-years of arboricultural skills and knowledge.

The program will shepherd the future leaders of conservation of biodiversity and adaptation to climate change.
